The recycling rates in North America are low at 35% (almost twice less than in western Europe) and the number hasn’t grown in the last couple of years. Why is that?

Some of the reasons are the single-stream recycling method as well as a lack of consumer education. Knowing what you can and can’t recycle isn’t easy. But when you put stuff that can’t be recycled into that blue bin, it can turn entire hauls of otherwise recyclable materials into trash.
